The Hunter class in World of Warcraft can very easily be considered one of the solo classes in the game. The ability to utilize a tamed pet that is able to play a tank allows the hunter to deal damage without taking much. The Hunter also is able to utilize traps when fighting large mob groups or in Player vs. Player combat. The Hunter is also able to track various mobs allowing them an advantage of knowing where the mobs are before entering their aggro range. This class is able to tame a wide selection of game pets including “exotic” beasts if deep within the Beastmastery tree. Recent changes within the expansion include the ability to obtain a pet at level one but they are not able to control the pet until level 10. However, this class is not without weaknesses. They are only able to wear leather armor until they reach level 40 then they are able to utilize mail armor to toughen their ability to within stand physical damage.
The hunter does play well as a melee class as a majority of their attacks is ranged. It is stated in many players’ opinions that Hunters can deal the best ranged attacks in the game. They are able to equip many types of ranged weapons including bows and firearms. The ability to kite mobs prevents them acquiring damage at a melee range. The use of the Marksmanship and Survival trees allow them to be excellent players when they solo. The ability to feign death and to disengage from combat allows Hunters to have a high potential to avoid danger or to end combat before they die. This contributes to the ability of the hunter surviving solo play. The survival hunter also has the ability of replenishment for an entire group or raid part. This permits each member to gain 1% of their total mana pool per 15 seconds. The mishandled pet may cause other players from wanting to group with them as they may pull the wrong aggro at the wrong times. They are also not able to equip shields to protect themselves.
The Hunter must know how to manage their pets properly or they are likely to draw aggro from surrounding mobs disabling the Hunter by surrounding them. It is also a necessity for a Hunter to carry ammo and food for both the player and his/her pet. The Alliance races that are able to roll a hunter are Draenei, Dwarf, and Night Elf and as of the latest expansion Humans and Worgen races as well. Horde races that have the hunter ability are Blood Elf, Goblin, Orc, Tauren, Troll and Undead as of the expansion pack. Hunters are a favorable pet among many players because of their ability to tame pets and deploy large amounts of DPS.
